The OctoPod and TriPod: Solutions for Housing
Since 2020 We have been working with Resiliency Village to address the housing crisis in Tuolumne County. This collaboration has resulted in the new architectural typology I call the OctoPod. This is a 4500 sqft 8-bedroom 8-bathrrom scalable structure that can be built on any lot in California. This innovative solution creates a community by combining small bedroom units and a central Community Hall structure. The concept is “Home as Neighborhood”. The bedroom pods are a physical metaphor of a home on a street, where the Community Hall is the shared public space, and the pods are the private residence. Each pod has a small yard and private entrance enhancing the feeling of privacy for the residence while simultaneously promoting social and community interaction. It is our hope to bring this concept to all of California and the rest of the Nation. This innovative design is a real-world solution to address our national housing crisis. Here is a news article about the construction of this OctoPod.
